PhD Students

Cory Nickchen

Cory Nickchen is a PhD student from the School of Architecture at the University of Florida. Cory’s work is concerned with environmental noise mapping systems.

Master's Students

Ran Dou

Ran Dou is a Master’s student from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Florida. Ran’s research interests are: Signal Processing, Machine Learning, Computer Programming, and Algorithms.

Ran is working on the diffusion and scattering properties of 3D geometries. In this research project which will be his Master’s thesis project as well, Ran is interested in wave-based modeling and prediction of sound diffraction phenomena in enclosed spaces. He will be using cloud computing engines to compensate the computational expenses of his research.

Christopher Kania

Christopher Kania is a designer pursuing a Master’s Degree in Architecture at the University of Florida’s School of Architecture. He grew up with the influence of music from an early age and that interest in the creation, manipulation and control of sound has made its way into his design studies and professional life.

At EAAR LAB, Chris is completing his Graduate thesis on the methods (design guides) of mitigating noise and improving speech intelligibility in open design studio environments.

Sachit Verma

Sachit Verma is a Master’s student from the Department of Computer and Information Science and Engineering at the University of Florida. He has worked as an Associate System Engineer for 2 years in Tata Consultancy Services. Sachit is also an active member of the UF’s Data Science Research Lab directed by Dr. Daisy Zhe Wang. His areas of interest include Data Science, Distributed Systems and Software Development.

He is working with EAAR LAB on developing plugins for Rhino and Grasshopper in the area of Architectural Acoustics.
